I'm back from surgery!
Just wanted to update everyone. I had my lap RNY surgery on Tuesday of this week with Dr. Dallal at Einstein. Surgery went really well and I felt great afterwards. I had alot of hiccups and burping but they were more of just a nuisance than anything. Then at around 11pm that night I started throwing up blood. It was a very long night of being sick and throwing up. It felt like I had a knot in my throat and it made me feel horrible. Finally at 2pm I threw up one last time, the knot in the throat was gone (it was probably blood sitting there waiting to come out) and I fell asleep immediately. I slept for 2 hours and felt much much better again. Yesterday I was ready to go home but they felt that I didn't get enough water in (I felt extremely full trying to sip all day) and they hooked me back up to IV. The IV helped alot and I left at 11pm. This morning I felt wonderful. I have been sipping all day and walking around the house. I was so nervous about this surgery and now I'm so happy that I finally did it! If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask me.

Hi Callie,
Glad to hear you're home and doing well. It's a little disoncerting that you had the bleeding, vomiting, hiccups and had to be hooked up to the IV again. Thank goodness that you are feeling well again. I know you were nervous about the surgery, but it's finally over!!! Glad you're on the mend and you'll be one of the biggest losers.
I'm having my surgery on Tuesday 10/21...I'm not as nervous as I was 3 weeks ago when my surgery had to be cancelled. I feel pretty confident with Dr. Dallal and his staff. It was a pain drinking all those protein drinks again, but I'm plodding through it. I was waiting to hear from you on the posting to know that you were home and doing well.
Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

Hi Nancy,
I was hoping that you would read my post. The doc told me that they had seen people throw up blood before. It probably accumulated somewhat after the surgery. Hiccups mostly came when I got up out of the bed but quickly passed by the next day. I think part of the vomiting has to do with the fact that I do have problems with anesthesia and pain meds. Honestly, I didn't use the pain meds once until the nurse told me that it would help me sleep and that the nausea might go. Unfortunately, I did that and I think it made me feel worse on the stomach. The pain was so little I could hardly believe that I had major surgery. I was happy with Dr. Dallal and his staff, I'm sure that you are in great hands with them. If you want to email me, feel free and I can tell you more about my time in the hospital. My email is [email protected] I wish you lots of luck with the surgery and just remember everyday gets a little bit better!
